Viking Vega

Viking Vega is the furthest out of the named hulls in this fleet. She was announced on July 23, 2026 together with Viking Leda, is due from Fincantieri in June 2029, and at the time of writing she is a slot in an order book with a name and a set of dimensions attached. This page is short because the record is short.

What was announced

Cruise Industry News reported her as the eighteenth ocean ship Fincantieri has built for Viking, debuting in June 2029 with 998 guests. Viking’s own page for her gives 784 feet of length and 101 feet of beam, the dimensions of the Vela class, the design Viking Vesta and Viking Mira were built to.

Her tonnage has not been settled. The same July 2026 report describes her as a 47,000-ton ship; a March 2026 report on Viking’s order book states that all nine firm ocean orders are 54,300 tons, which is what every Vela-class ship afloat measures. There is no reason to print either figure as hers.

Her year is contested too, though in a small way. Viking’s own ship page lists 2028; the trade press says June 2029, and this site’s schedule follows 2029.

The order book she sits in

Viking’s ocean fleet has been the same argument repeated for a decade, and the order book is the clearest statement of how well that has worked. As of March 2026 the line had nine ocean ships on firm order for delivery through 2031, all of them 54,300-ton, 998-guest vessels from Fincantieri in Italy, plus options on six more running to 2034 and two expedition ships for 2030 and 2031. Vega is one hull in that sequence.

The two ships immediately ahead of her, Viking Astrea and Viking Lyra, have been reported as hydrogen-powered. Whether Vega carries the same fuel cells has not been stated, and it should not be assumed; a technology announced for two hulls is not a fleet standard until the line says so.

Where she is meant to go

The announcement puts her first guests in the Mediterranean in June 2029, sailing from Italian and Spanish ports including Civitavecchia and Barcelona, before she repositions to the British Isles in mid-July and works out of Bergen and UK ports for the rest of the season.

That is an announcement, not a schedule. This site carries no sailings for her, and a deployment three years out is the part of a plan most likely to change.

Who she suits

Nobody who wants to know what they are booking. There is no christening date, no godmother, no deck plan, no confirmed tonnage, no propulsion detail and no photograph of anything. What can be said is that she is a Vela-class hull from Fincantieri for 2029, all-veranda, adults only, with the fare inclusions the rest of the fleet carries, and that everything specific about her is currently an inference from her sisters.
