Viking Leda

Viking Leda was named on July 23, 2026, three weeks before this page was written, when Viking revealed her and Viking Vega as its next two ocean ships. She is a hull number with a name on it, ordered from Fincantieri in Italy, and there is very little else that can honestly be said about her.

What was announced

Cruise Industry News, reporting the announcement, has her entering service in December 2028 as the seventeenth ocean ship Fincantieri has built for Viking. Capacity is 998 guests. Viking’s own page for her lists 784 feet of length and 101 feet of beam, which are the figures of the ships already in service.

The reporting describes the design as “similar to the Viking Star,” which is the 2015 lead ship of the fleet. In practice these later hulls have been built to the slightly larger Vela pattern rather than the original (784 by 101 feet instead of 745 by 94, 998 guests instead of 930), and Leda’s published dimensions are the Vela ones. Two numbers that do not agree

Her tonnage is unsettled in the sources. The July 2026 report calls her a 47,000-ton vessel. A March 2026 report on the order book states that all of Viking’s firm ocean orders are 54,300 tons, and 54,300 is the figure carried by every Vela-class ship in service. Forty-seven thousand is closer to the older Viking Star figure. Until Viking issues one for this hull, there is no tonnage on this page.

Her year is also unsettled. Viking’s own ship page lists the year built as 2029; the trade report says December 2028. Both can be true of a ship delivered at the very end of a year, and either way her first full season is 2029.

Where she is meant to go

The announcement gives her a winter Mediterranean debut: eight- to sixteen-day itineraries departing from Greece, Italy and Spain, covering the Aegean, the western Mediterranean and the Atlantic coast as far as Morocco.

None of that is bookable here. This site currently carries no sailings for Leda at all, so there is no schedule on this page to compare the announcement against, and the announcement is all there is.

Who she suits

At this range, only people booking a fleet rather than a ship. There is no christening date, no godmother, no deck plan, no photograph and no confirmed tonnage. Nothing is known about what is aboard her beyond what is aboard her sisters, and assuming she matches them is an inference, not a fact.
