The massive cruise ship MSC Grandiosa sails on open water under an overcast sky. The white vessel features a tiered front, numerous cabin balconies, and bright orange lifeboats along the side. Dark exhaust smoke rises from its large black funnel.

MSC Grandiosa is the first of the Meraviglia Plus ships, the stretched version of the class, sixteen meters longer than MSC Meraviglia and about ten thousand gross tons heavier, carrying 2,421 cabins and 354 more guests at double occupancy. Chantiers de l’Atlantique delivered her on October 31, 2019 and Sophia Loren christened her at Hamburg nine days later, and she went into service five months before the industry stopped.

The stretch went mostly into the promenade. The Galleria Grandiosa runs longer than the original Galleria and carries a longer LED sky screen over it, which remains the single most photographed thing on any MSC ship. Around it MSC added more dining rooms, more bars and a considerably larger Yacht Club than the original Meraviglia hulls carry.

She was also the first ship in the fleet fitted with selective catalytic reduction, which takes about eighty percent of the nitrogen oxides out of the exhaust, alongside a closed-loop scrubber that removes most of the sulfur. It is the least visible thing about her and probably the most consequential.

What she is known for

The Galleria. The LED-roofed indoor street, with the bars and restaurants of the ship arranged along it. It is the class signature, and the Plus hulls carry a longer version of it than the two ships that came before.

A large Yacht Club. Gated forward, own restaurant, own lounge, own pool and sun deck, butler service and drinks included inside. The Plus hulls give it more room than the original two, and on a ship carrying 4,842 at double occupancy that space is what you are actually buying.

Changing continents. She has already done a Mediterranean career and a Brazilian season, and from late 2026 she becomes an American ship. Very few vessels this size move markets outright, and the move tells you something about where MSC thinks the growth is.

Cirque du Soleil. The Carousel Lounge, the small purpose-built theater-in-the-round MSC developed with Cirque du Soleil, is part of the class. Two shows a cruise, with a dinner-and-show option. Reserve early; the room is deliberately small.

The dining and the fare tiers. Included main dining rooms and a buffet, with the fleet specialty rooms above them, a steakhouse, a sushi and teppanyaki room, a taco and tequila bar. The same cabin sells at three prices: Bella with the room assigned, Fantastica with your choice plus room-service breakfast and flexible dining, Aurea adding a thermal-spa pass, priority boarding and a drinks package. On the three- and four-night Bahamas runs, priority boarding is worth more than it looks, because a slow embarkation costs a real fraction of the trip.

Where she actually sails

The schedule splits cleanly in two, and November 2026 is the hinge.

Until the end of October 2026 she is a Western Mediterranean ship, running seven-night weeks sold from Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Genoa, Civitavecchia and Cannes at once, Cannes being an unusual embarkation port that almost nothing else in this fleet uses. La Spezia is on the circuit as a call.

Then she crosses. A series of MSC Grand Voyages in late October and November 2026, ten to twenty nights, carries her from Genoa, Marseille, Barcelona, Civitavecchia and Funchal to Florida, and from that point she is based at Port Canaveral and stays there. Every Caribbean departure she has is a Port Canaveral round trip.

The Florida program is the short-and-long combination MSC runs from that port. Most of it is three- and four-night Bahamas runs to Nassau and Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. Next come seven-night Caribbean weeks reaching Puerto Plata, Cozumel, Costa Maya and San Juan, and behind those the fourteen-night sailings, sold as two of those weeks back to back. Ocean Cay is on very nearly every one of them and Nassau on most.

Who she suits

Families in Central Florida from late 2026 onward. She will be the largest ship MSC has at Port Canaveral until MSC World Atlantic arrives in 2027, the LED promenade is a genuinely good indoor space for a hot afternoon, and the three- and four-night fares are among the cheapest routes onto a ship of this size anywhere.

The Ocean Cay day is the reason to prefer her short runs to a competitor’s. MSC bought a worked-out aragonite sand-mining island in the Bahamas, cleared it, replanted it and put a marine reserve around it, and the ships stay into the evening rather than leaving mid-afternoon. It is quieter and considerably less commercial than the private islands the American lines run.

The fourteen-night sailings are the other thing worth pointing at. Sold as two consecutive weeks with no repeated port, on a seven-year-old ship at MSC’s fares. Very little based in Florida offers a straightforward fortnight, and for anyone with the time it is one of the better values in the Caribbean.

She is the wrong booking if you want a real Caribbean itinerary. The majority of her Florida calendar is Nassau and Ocean Cay, which is a beach vacation rather than an island-hopping one, and a three-night cruise is two full days with one of them spent boarding and disembarking. Anyone who wants her Mediterranean program has until October 2026 and no longer; after the crossing she is not scheduled back.

And as with the rest of MSC in the United States, the low headline fare does not include drinks, wi-fi, specialty dining or gratuities, and comparing it against an all-inclusive fare from another line will mislead you in both directions. The US-based operation also has a mixed reputation for embarkation and guest services that its European operation does not, and a ship that has just transferred into the market with a crew new to it is where that shows up first. Give her a season before assuming the transition went smoothly.
