Harmony of the Seas is the third Oasis-class ship, delivered by Chantiers de l’Atlantique at Saint-Nazaire in May 2016, six years after Allure. She is the hull where Royal Caribbean stopped refining the class and started bolting things onto it. Oasis and Allure had been about the neighborhood layout, the open-air Central Park, the Boardwalk, the AquaTheater. Harmony kept all of that and added the attractions, and every Oasis-class ship since has been measured against what she carried.
What she introduced
Three waterslides, the Perfect Storm trio, which were the first waterslides Royal Caribbean had ever put on a ship. Two surf simulators instead of one. And the Ultimate Abyss, a dry slide that drops ten decks from the top of the stern down to the Boardwalk, a piece of equipment with no purpose beyond being alarming, and one since fitted to Symphony, Wonder and Utopia.
She also carries something in the order of eleven thousand individual works of art, which is the least talked-about thing aboard and, on a sea day, one of the better reasons to walk the ship end to end.
For the shape of the class itself (the seven neighborhoods, what Central Park does to the crowding problem, why the Suite Neighborhood exists), see the Wonder of the Seas profile. Harmony predates the eighth neighborhood and does not have it.
The 2026 refit, and what it cost her
She went into Navantia at Cádiz on April 3, 2026 for a six-week Royal Amplified drydock and came out on May 21. The additions are the ones the program always brings: a rebuilt Caribbean-themed pool deck, The Lime & Coconut, Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade, El Loco Fresh and Samba Grill.
The subtraction is the part worth knowing. Close to a hundred new staterooms were built, and the space came out of public rooms, the conference center, and Wonderland, the Alice-in-Wonderland specialty restaurant that had been one of the more distinctive things aboard. A ship this size makes its money on berths, and when a line adds a hundred cabins to a nine-year-old hull it is telling you what it thinks the ship is for. If Wonderland was on your list, it is gone.
Where she actually sails
Port Canaveral, year-round. She was based at Galveston from October 2023, spent the weeks after her refit on Mediterranean sailings, and took up the Florida deployment in August 2026. Almost everything she runs from here is Caribbean, with a block of Bahamas sailings, and the lengths swing wide: two nights at the short end and nine at the long, with seven the median. Perfect Day at CocoCay appears on most of them.
She has form in that stretch of water. In January 2022, sailing out of Port Canaveral, she wandered into the exclusion zone for a Falcon 9 launch and the rocket was held on the pad until she cleared it.
Who she suits
Families and groups who want the full Oasis-class inventory and are willing to plan around it. Seven nights is the right length for her, long enough to get through the slides, the shows and the neighborhoods without spending the week in a line.
The two- and three-night sailings on her schedule are a different proposition, and the same one Utopia of the Seas offers from the same port: a very large ship, two stops, and no realistic chance of seeing most of her. That can be exactly what you want. It is not good value if the ports were the reason.
She does not suit anyone who wants a quiet week, anyone allergic to advance reservations, or anyone expecting the newest thing; she is ten years old, the 2026 work was mostly bars and pool deck, and the interior architecture is 2016 with 2016’s cabin sizes.
